OTTAWA, February 4, 2012 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. are warning the public not to consume the Smoked Trout Fillet described below because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product, Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. Smoked Trout Filet, is sold refrigerated in variable weight vacuum packages, bearing Best Before dates February 9, 2012 and February 10, 2012 and lot code 30644-1. There is no UPC on the package.

This product has been distributed in Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

The manufacturer, Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. Bracebridge, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

The City of Toronto’s environmental awards of excellence honour and celebrate the individuals, organizations and companies that are helping lead the way to a cleaner, greener and more liveable Toronto. Big, small – we’re looking for them all!

Nominations close Monday, February 6 at 11:59 p.m.

Nominations are now open for the 2012 Green Toronto Awards.

Please note that any person, project, initiative or company may be nominated for an award provided that they reside in Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and/or contribute directly to the greening of the City of Toronto.
