Torontonians encouraged to ‘Cut it Out’ at Canadian Tire this weekend

The City of Toronto and Canadian Tire are inviting Torontonians to help cut emissions and keep Toronto green and healthy by retiring their old, polluting, gas-powered lawn, garden and snow equipment at four Canadian Tire stores this weekend.

Cut it Out Toronto! will take place at the Canadian Tire stores listed below on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will receive $100 off selected Yardworks lawnmowers, $50 off a Yardworks trimmer, or $40 off a Yardworks push mower. The mower and trimmer are cordless, lithium-ion battery powered with Energy Star rated battery chargers. The offer is valid June 4 and 5 only on purchases at the participating Canadian Tire stores identified below.

All items will be collected for responsible dismantling and recycling by members of the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association.

Older gas-powered leaf and snowblowers, lawnmowers and trimmers emit a high level of pollutants into the air compared to newer equipment built to more stringent emission standards. According to Environment Canada, running a 10-year-old, gas-powered lawnmower for one hour is equal to driving a new car from Toronto to Ottawa. Significant emissions savings can be achieved by upgrading to a newer model or by replacing old equipment with other environmentally-preferable products, such as push mowers.

Participating Canadian Tire Stores

• 1530 Albion Rd., Etobicoke

• 4630 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough

• Centrepoint Mall, 6310 Yonge St., North York

• 825  Eglinton Ave. E., Warden Avenue and Eglinton Avenue

Representatives from the Toronto Environment Office will also be available to provide tips to help customers green their lives.

Cut it Out Toronto! is one way the City of Toronto and Canadian Tire are working together to help Toronto residents green their homes and neighbourhoods. Canadian Tire also sponsors the City’s Live Green Toronto Festival and the Community Grants Program.
