Dupont Parkette will be renamed to the Sergeant Ryan Russell Parkette.

The parkette naming will occur on:

Toronto’s official parkette naming will honour fallen Police Sergeant Ryan Russell who lost his life in the line of duty while answering an emergency call to pursue the driver of a stolen snowplow.

City of Toronto to honour fallen Police Sergeant Ryan Russell with parkette naming

Mayor Rob Ford, Councillor Adam Vaughan (Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina), Toronto Chief of Police William Blair, City of Toronto staff and members of the Russell family will join local residents to officially rename Dupont Parkette the Sergeant Ryan Russell Parkette.

Location: Park formerly called Dupont Parkette, 250 Avenue Rd. at Dupont Street

Sergeant Ryan, 35, a husband, father and mentor, was an 11-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service at 52 Division. A member of the Guns and Gangs Force, he had been promoted to sergeant six months prior to his death. Sergeant Russell lost his life in the line of duty while answering an emergency call to pursue the driver of a stolen snowplow.
