This is an update to my previous blogs:

Metrolinx unveiled new light rail vehicles (LRVs) that will be carrying passengers along the new Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line, and eventually similar Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines along Sheppard and Finch.

  • Moving Transit Forward in Toronto:

      • On November 28, 2012, Metrolinx signed agreements with the TTC and the City of Toronto to improve public transit and ease congestion in Toronto

      • Under one agreement, the TTC will implement PRESTO fare card technology in all subway stations, buses and streetcars by 2016

        • This will allow commuters to travel seamlessly and more conveniently within the TTC and across eight municipal transit systems equipped with PRESTO in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area

    • A second agreement formalizes the construction and future operation of the four new Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines in Toronto:
      • Four New Lines = 52 Kilometres of New Transit

      • Metrolinx will own the following four LRT lines and the TTC will operate them:
        1. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT from Black Creek to Kennedy Station: work is already underway and will be completed by 2020

        2. The Scarborough RT replacement and extension to Sheppard Avenue: work will begin in 2014 and be completed by 2020

        3. The Finch West LRT from the Toronto-York-Spadina Subway extension to Humber College: work will begin in 2015 and be completed by 2020

        4. The Sheppard East LRT from Don Mills station to east of Morningside Avenue: work will begin in 2017 and be completed by 2021

  • The Big Move:

    • On November 29, 2012, Metrolinx President and CEO Bruce McCuaig unveiled the next wave of projects drawn from The Big Move, the Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), that will continue Metrolinx’s ongoing transformation of the region’s transportation system

      • The Big Move is a 25-year, $50 billion plan

Environmental Assessment Update: Change to East Tunnel Alignment

  • Metrolinx invites you to attend a public information meeting to get a project update, learn more and share your input on a change of the east tunnel portal location from east of Laird Station (near Brentcliffe Road) to just east of Don Mills Station
  • This change will allow uninterrupted tunnelling from Don Mills to Yonge Station with significant improvements to construction staging, schedule and impacts
  • The information meeting will be held starting at 7:00 pm with an opportunity to view displays and speak one-on-one with staff, followed by a presentation and question and answer at 8:00pm.

Environmental Assessment and Mobility Hub Update: Mount Dennis Area

  • Mobility hubs consist of major transit stations and the surrounding area:
    • They serve a critical function in the regional transportation system as the origin, destination, or transfer point for a significant portion of trips

    • They are places of connectivity where different modes of transportation – from walking to biking to riding transit – come together seamlessly

    • There is an intensive concentration of working, living, shopping and/or playing

  • Metrolinx invites you to attend a public information meeting to:
    • learn more about:
      • a change to the west light rail transit alignment that will enable an underground station at Weston Road and Mount Dennis

      • the preliminary planning for a new vehicle maintenance and storage facility at Eglinton and Black Creek

    • provide input through a Mobility Hub Workshop that will help identify community opportunities to shape the future vision for the area
  • The information meeting will be held starting at 6:30 pm with an opportunity to view displays and speak one-on-one with staff
    • The Mobility Hub workshop will follow, beginning at 8:00pm
