Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards 2011: Nominations Now Open

To recognize and celebrate Manitobans who embody the “spirit of sustainability” through their “concrete, lasting achievements that help Manitoba remain a leader in sustainable development,” Manitoba is calling for nominations for the 2011 Excellence in Sustainability Awards.

Excellence in Sustainability Awards was established in 2008 by the Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development “to showcase individual and collective efforts that incorporate the positive impact of decisions and actions on the environment, the economy and human health and well-being.”

Manitoba is inviting any individual, business, organization or community group in the province to apply or be nominated for one Excellence in Sustainability award in the following six categories:

  • Action on Climate Change, Air Quality and Energy Efficiency,
  • Sustainability in Water and Natural Area Stewardship,
  • Sustainability in Pollution Prevention and Product Stewardship,
  • Education for Sustainability,
  • Innovation and Research for Sustainability, and
  • Champion for Sustainability.

Also, a 2011 Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability winner may be selected by the Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development which is chaired by Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie.

For your info, the winner of the 2010 Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability was Fresh Option Organic Delivery (FOOD) for working with local producers to strengthen Manitoba’s organic market and increase the sustainability of the food system.

“A successful organic retail and delivery business, FOOD has become the hub of Manitoba’s local and sustainable-food distribution system.”

The deadline for nominations and applications is noon, Friday, August 19, 2011.

Nominations Now Open for 2011 Awards: Blaikie

The province is calling for nominations for the 2011 Excellence in Sustainability Awards that recognize and celebrate Manitobans who have turned the principles of sustainable development into concrete, lasting achievements, Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie announced today.

“Each year, dedicated Manitobans contribute ideas, programs and action plans for sustainable development that benefit our economy, our province and the people who live here,” said Blaikie, who also chairs the Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development.  “These awards are our opportunity to recognize and reward individuals, groups and organizations who embrace the spirit and principles that help Manitoba remain a leader in sustainable development.”

The Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development established the awards program in 2008 to showcase individual and collective efforts that incorporate the positive impact of decisions and actions on the environment, the economy and human health and well-being.
