Natural/Herbal Weight-Loss Pills May Be Hazardous to Your Health

Did you know….?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) informed us that at least 69 natural/herbal weight-loss pills may be hazardous to your health because they are tainted with prescription drugs or mixtures of drugs, including laxatives, diuretics, and anti-seizure medications.

FDA does not approve or regulate these dietary supplements. Not all of the makers of the 69 have complied to the voluntary recall issued by FDA.

One very serious concern is the supplements containing more than one drug, and in doses three to four times what a medical doctor would prescribe to you. Furthermore, the info about these extraneous drugs is not disclosed on the products’ labels.

The FDA warns the consumer that “if a product seems too good to be true, it typically is.” Also, the FDA recommends the following solutions:

  • checking its list for all of the tainted weight-loss supplements
  • people who want to lose weight should discuss their goals with their medical doctor and take only an FDA-approved weight-loss drug as directed by your doctor. There are three FDA-approved drugs on the market: sibutramine (Meridia), orlistat (Xenical), and a low-dose version of orlistat that is sold over the counter (Alli).
