  • Industry is recalling various products containing organic sprouted chia seeds (or chia seed powder) from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella bacteria contamination.
    • Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in the ninth list provided in the CFIA’s advisory.

Canada’s Second List of Food Containing Recalled Beef from USA: El Monterey Taquitos and Tornados®

This is an update to the previous blog, Health Hazard Alert: Various Tillamook Country Smoker Brand Beef Jerky Products Recalled.

Regarding the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) ongoing food safety investigation, the recall update now includes a second list of other food products – El Monterey brand Taquitos and Tornados® – containing some of the beef products which were recalled by Rancho Feeding Corporation, Petalama, California, USA on February 8, 2014 “because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection.” Therefore, these products are considered unsound, unwholesome or otherwise unfit for human consumption.

  • Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.
