Pick Up Your July 1, 2011 Ontario Works Cheques: June 28 (A to K), June 29 (L to Z), June 30

In response to the current postal disruption, City of Toronto have made the following arrangements for Toronto residents who would normally receive their July 1 Ontario Works cheques in the mail:

  • Pick up your cheques at your regular Employment and Social Services location at the time specified as follows:
  • Your last name begins with the letter:
    A to K: Cheque pickup date is Tuesday, June 28 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    L to Z: Cheque pickup date is Wednesday, June 29 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • If you are unable to pick up your Ontario Works cheques on the above dates, you can pick them up on Thursday, June 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Appropriate identification is required in order to pick up a cheque. Examples of appropriate identification are a birth certificate, driver’s licence, passport or immigration documents.
  • If you normally receive your Ontario Works payments by direct bank deposit, then you are not affected.
  • The Drug Benefit Card has been extended to cover clients during the month of July.

Please note that the above arrangements are in effect whether or not members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) return to work.

Please Pick Up June 1, 2011 Ontario Works Cheques at Employment & Social Services Offices May 30 (A to K)-31(L to Z)

There may or may not be a postal disruption in Ontario, Canada.

However, to eliminate the possibility of a postal strike delaying clients’ Ontario Works cheques, the City of Toronto’s Employment and Social Services division will not be mailing its June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheques.

For Toronto residents who are expecting their June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheques in the mail, the new arrrangements and details are as follows:

  • You will be able to pick up your June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheque at your regular Employment and Social Services office in the following manner: your last name begins with the letter:
  • A to K cheque pickup date: Monday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    L to Z cheque pickup date: Tuesday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • These changes are in effect whether or not an agreement is reached over the coming days by Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
  • Appropriate identification is required in order to pick up a June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheque, such as a birth certificate, driver’s licence, passport or immigration documents.
  • June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheque will only be given to the person whose name is on the cheque.
  • If you are unable to pick up your June 1, 2011 Ontario Works cheque on the above dates, you can call your caseworker.
  • If you normally receive your Ontario Works payment by direct bank deposit, you will not be affected.
  • The May 2011 Drug Benefit Card has been extended to cover clients during this period.
