  • Come celebrate the official opening of the Joseph Bannon Park and the official street naming with:
    • Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7 York West), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee
    • City of Toronto staff
    • members of the community
    • the Emery Village Business Improvement Area
    • and the Bannon family
  •  After the official ceremony, a fall festival with family activities, food and refreshments will take place in the park
  • Joseph Bannon Park was named to honour Joseph Bannon, a decorated war hero and one of Emery Village’s greatest community champions
    • Bannon and his wife Doris May became foster parents to more than 150 babies and unwanted children, and adopted seven of them
    • Bannon was a founding patron of St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Weston Road
  • The new one-hectare park features:
    • an artificial outdoor ice rink
    • senior and junior play structure
    • splash pad
    • mini soccer field

In Ontario, Canada, almost half of the province’s four- and five-year-olds will attend full-day kindergarten this fall.

Many schools have already begun registering children for the upcoming school year.

September 2012 marks the third year of the province’s new full-day kindergarten program.

Full-day kindergarten will be available in all elementary schools by September 2014.

This is an update to my previous blog Toronto Challenge 2011 Benefits You and Seniors.

The famous Jamie Farr, best known for the role of “Corporal Klinger” on the television show M*A*S*H, will be at the Toronto Challenge on June 12, 2011, to help promote this annual fundraising event for the City of Toronto’s Long-Term Care homes and over 50 community agencies that provide services and support to Toronto seniors.

Also, Farr will share motivational stories from his career and entertain the “troops” at Lakeshore Lodge on:
