Here are the details of the GO green movement along Lakeshore East line:

  • Metrolinx, as an agency of the Government of Ontario, has purchased nearly 30 kilometres of rail tracks of CN’s Kingston Subdivision rail line, east of Union Station in downtown Toronto to a junction near Whites Road in Pickering, Ont., used primarily for commuter and passenger rail operations in eastern Toronto.
  • 43,000 commuters use the Lakeshore East line on a daily basis.
  • GO Transit is a division of Metrolinx.
  • With this new section between Union Station and a junction near Whites Road in Pickering, Metrolinx now owns 61 per cent of the rail corridors on which GO Trains run.
  • Owning this rail corridor section better positions GO to improve service, better control operations and plan future service growth.
  • GO Transit carries nearly 57 million passengers a year in an extensive network of train and bus services that spans over 10,000 square kilometres.
  • Since 2003, the Ontario government has invested approximately $4.7 billion in GO Transit to improve service and expand routes.

Way to GO Commuters!

Happy Commuting!
