Via the implementation of the new Biodiversity: It’s in Our Nature plan, Ontario will undertake over 100 activities with industry, environmental and community partners over the next decade to protect biodiversity:

  • “Biodiversity” refers to the “immense variety of life on Earth, from microscopic insects to vast northern forests”
    • Ontario Biodiversity Council identifies six main threats to Ontario’s biodiversity:

      1. habitat loss
      2. invasive alien species
      3. population growth
      4. pollution
      5. unsustainable use
      6. climate change

You’re Invited: Licence-Free Fishing in Ontario July 7 – 15, 2012

Ontario Family Fishing Events (OFFE) is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card.

  • The Ontario Government designates two periods throughout the year as license-free:
    • February 18-20, 2012 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday)
    • July 7-15, 2012 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday)
  • During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.
  • With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days.

  • Ontario is home to 160 species of freshwater fish in lakes and rivers across the province.
