The Elder Project at the NFB Cinema

Tomorrow, October 1st, is the International Day of Older Persons. As a celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, the National Film Board of Canada (Toronto, Ontario) invites you to see the “The Elder Project” film for free in the NFB Cinema of the NFB Mediatheque.

Dr. Norah Keating, Chair, North American Region, International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, called The Elder Project film “Sensitive, intimate and moving.” The Elder Project portrays seven diverse seniors, recording over two years their experiences for a series of short and candid episodic stories.

NFBeats at SCOTIABANK NUIT BLANCHE 2010

This Saturday, October 2nd, NFBeats at SCOTIABANK NUIT BLANCHE 2010 will be a sensational experience of partying for all ages at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) Mediatheque in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from 6:57 pm to sunrise.

Everyone of all ages are invited to show off their dance moves. And with each move you will “trigger new patterns, colours and images, creating an interactive art project fuelled by the collective rhythm of everyone who steps onto the dance floor”. You will see the cool sights as well as actively creating them “against a pulsating musical backdrop of both traditional and innovative NFB films from Pas de deux (1968) to RiP: A Remix Manifesto (2008)”.

In effect, you will make an all-night remix session of film history at the NFB Mediatheque. So enjoy the “interactive nature of film while taking creative control each step of the way!”!

You are invited to celebrate FÊTE DE LA CULTURE/CULTURE DAYS at the NFB Toronto Mediatheque. Toronto Mediatheque

To celebrate International Animation Day (October 28th),  NFB Toronto Mediatheque invites all students from elementary and secondary schools to take part in the Get Animated! 2010 Workshop Contest! Get Animated! is a Canada-wide series of free screenings and activities from the NFB (National Film Board of Canada), to mark International Animation Day.

Students are invited to watch an animated short film on NFB.ca and write their own, original film review for a chance for their entire class to win a FULL DAY OF HANDS-ON ANIMATION WORKSHOPS at the NFB Mediatheque!

On Sunday, September 5th, the NFB (National Film Board of Canada) Mediatheque in Toronto, Ontario provided great fun and enjoyment for both the children and adults in the Animate This workshop. This affordable animation workshop for children ages 6 – 14 was offered at a very low cost of $5 per child and the accompanying adults can participate in the animation workshop for free.

The children used colourful clay as well as their imaginations to create their characters and simple stories.  Here is the amazing animated film showcasing the participants’ sweet and loveable creative works in Animate This, a NFB Mediatheque’ s animation workshop (to view the film just click on the scene below and wait about 3 seconds):

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, you can create your own short animated film about the environment and bring your vision to life! Participants will arrange cut-out images from magazines to critically address environmental issues and superimpose them on an untouched landscape – remixing the portrayal of our environment and challenging how we think about it. A fun hands-on experience with stop-motion animation, whether it’s your first or fiftieth time!
