Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2015 – planning ahead and getting around on October 3 and 4

From sunset at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 to sunrise on Sunday, October 4, Toronto’s all-night celebration of contemporary art once again returns to the city’s streets. To help people plan ahead for the event, information about getting to, around and home from the event is available at scotiabanknuitblanche.ca/plan-ahead.

Digital guide and navigating the night
A streamlined version of the navigation website will be available on mobile devices on October 3 at snbto.ca. Use GPS to find the closest projects and to get around for the event. Projects can be found and viewed by location, artist or project name. Additional information about the optimized web app can be found at scotiabanknuitblanche.ca/connect/nuit-mobile.html. Event updates will also be available on Twitter at @sbnuitblancheTO, #snbTO throughout the night.

A map and detailed event information are available via the website and on mobile devices, as noted above. During the event, a paper map is available at any of the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Information Centres: Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W., Union Station, 65 Front St. W., and the southeast corner of College Street and University Avenue.

This video presents “Timelapse of Ai Weiwei’s Forever Bicycles Build – Toronto.”

  • “Ai Weiwei’s spectacular Forever Bicycles installation consisted of 3,144 bikes which came together on Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square over the course of two and a half weeks.
  • The build began on September 19, 2013 and finished on October 4, 2013—just in time for the 8th annual Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.
    • The open-air installation was available for viewing 24hrs a day until October 27, 2013.”


This is an update to the previous blog, You’re Invited: Toronto Events Aug.22-26; Road Closures + Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Oct.5, 2013.

  • Here are the findings of the Ipsos Reid survey.
    • The economic impact for Toronto generated by Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2013 was $39.5 million.
    • The event attracted both local and out-of-town audiences, with an estimated attendance exceeding one million people and including more than 190,000 out-of-town visitors.
      • This is the highest level of tourist attendance yet for the event.
    • Hundreds of thousands took advantage of six extended projects and visited one or more of these projects following the main event on October 5.
    • Repeat attendance continued to grow and that most attendees felt the event gets better every year.
  • The following curators for next year’s event were officially announced:
    • Denise Markonish (North Adams, Massachusetts),
    • Dominique Fontaine (Montreal),
    • Heather Pesanti (Austin, Texas) and
    • Magda Gonzalez-Mora (Toronto).

There are special events with road closures in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Businesses in the affected areas are open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to motorists.

You are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to your destinations.

If you need to drive in the event areas, allow extra time to get to and from your destination.
