Effective immediately, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in Canada has lifted the Smog Advisory (June 28, 2012) for the following forecast regions because increasing wind speeds are allowing for good mixing and dispersion of pollutants, resulting in cleaner air:

  • Barrie-Orillia-Midland
  • Belleville-Quinte-Northumberland
  • City of Toronto
  • Dufferin-Innisfil
  • Grey-Bruce
  • Halton-Peel
  • Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes
  • Waterloo-Wellington

A smog advisory continues to be in effect for southern, and parts of central and eastern Ontario

This is an update to my previous blog Smog Alert: Southern, Central & Parts of Northern and Eastern Ontario June 20, 2012.

Effective immediately, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in Canada has lifted the Smog Advisory (June 20, 2012) for the following forecast regions because increasing wind speeds ahead of a cold front are allowing for good mixing and dispersion of pollutants, resulting in cleaner air in the air quality forecast regions listed as follows:

  • Burk’s Falls-Bayfield Inlet
  • Elliot Lake-Ranger Lake
  • Greater Sudbury and Vicinity
  • Manitoulin-Northshore-Killarney
  • North Bay-West Nipissing

  • This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

* A Smog Advisory means that there is a strong likelihood that there may be poor air quality within the next 24 hours due to ground-level ozone and/or particulate matter.

The Air Quality Index (AQI):

  • It is an indicator of air quality, based on air pollutants  that have adverse effects on human health and the environment.
    • Smog is harmful to the lungs and heart.
    • Even in healthy people, smog can reduce lung function.
