TTC Alert: Elevator of St George Subway Station Will Be Out of Service Jan.13 to Late March 2013

TTC’s (Toronto Transit Commission’s) elevators are specially designed for people in wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, with other mobility devices or baby strollers.

However, the TTC will be shutting down the elevator at St George subway station for scheduled maintenance from Sunday, January 13 to late March 2013, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada:

  • If you  normally use St George station, you can use the TTC’s internet trip planner at ttc.ca to plan your journey using alternate bus routes or alternate, accessible subway stations
    • To date, 31 Subway/RT stations are accessible

This video presents “TTC unveils new streetcars”:

  • The Toronto Transit Commission unveiled the first of the city’s new streetcars on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012
  • A total of 204 new low-floor vehicles are set to enter service in 2014 after street testing which begins next year, 2013:
    • The new features include:
      • Capacity for 148 passengers (standing and sitting), that’s 68 more passengers than the current streetcars

      • Compatibility with new Presto fare card system

      • Ability to load passengers at any door

      • Air conditioning

  • TTC’s new low-floor vehicles will slowly begin to replace the existing streetcars, which were built between 1977 and 1989 and are near the end of their service lives

Regarding accessibility for TTC customers, did you know…?

  • Today, all TTC buses are accessible
  • Starting next year, 2014, new low-floor accessible streetcars will begin service
  • By 2025, all subway stations will be barrier-free:
    • The TTC’s elevator installation project (Easier Access Phase 3) is scheduled to make the remaining 38 stations accessible by 2025 with the addition of:

      • elevators
      • easier access fare gates
      • automatic sliding doors
      • other modifications
  • Customers can:

TTC St George Station elevator to shut down for maintenance

The elevator at the TTC’s St George subway station will be out of service from Sunday, January 13 to late March 2013 for scheduled maintenance.

Customers wishing to transfer from the Bloor-Danforth Subway to the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway, or vice versa, can do so at Bloor-Yonge Station. For those who normally use St George station, they can use the TTC’s internet trip planner at ttc.ca to plan their journey using alternate bus routes or alternate, accessible subway stations.

The TTC is committed to accessibility. Today, all buses are accessible and starting next year, new low-floor accessible streetcars will begin service. By 2025, all subway stations will be barrier-free. Customers can call the TTC?s lift-line at 416-539-LIFT (5438) or subscribe to TTC e-alerts for up-to-the-minute information about elevator availability.
