Diverse youth try skiing and snowboarding for the first time

Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre) and City staff today joined a group of enthusiastic youth from diverse communities who were introduced to skiing and snowboarding through the Sharing Sports initiative.

“Getting involved in a sport helps youth build confidence and promotes lifelong health,” said Councillor Pasternak. “Different people enjoy different sports, and I’m proud that the City is providing the opportunity for these youth to try out skiing and snowboarding for the first time.”

initiative encourages newcomers to Canada to take part in City-run sports and recreation activities. Participants are offered the opportunity to try a sport they may not be familiar with in a fun and supportive environment.

Registered participants at Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre received free use of equipment (including skis, poles, snowboards and helmets), free ski or snowboard instruction, and a free lift pass for the day.

The event was organized by City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and sponsored by FLOW 93.5.

The City offers skiing and snowboarding seven days a week at two locations: Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre (4169 Bathurst St.) and Centennial Park Ski and Snowboard Centre (256 Centennial Park Rd.). Both locations offer discounted rates on Family Day that allow participants to ski or snowboard for twice as long for the regular price.
