Honda Indy Toronto

Honda Indy Road Closures:

  • Both closures will be in effect until Sunday, July 10 at midnight.
  • There will be no eastbound or westbound traffic on Lake Shore Boulevard between Strachan Avenue and British Columbia Drive during the closures.
  • The only access to Ontario Place will be from Lake Shore Boulevard at the foot of Strachan Avenue.
  • Alternate east/west routes in the area are the Gardiner Expressway and King Street.

Lawrence Avenue East (from Birchmount Road to Warden Avenue) in Scarborough is closed to traffic for this signature festival.

The street is filled with sights, sounds, aromas and activities for everyone to enjoy.

30-foot long stages are the focal points to the festival. Where unique and amazing musical and dance performances will be featured.

The Taste of Lawrence celebrates the cultural diversity of the Scarborough area by showcasing unique cultural music, performers, vendors, retailers, community groups and the gastronomic flavours, which make this the most colourful and ethnically based area of Toronto.

The main objective of the festival is to raise funds for local Scarborough charities through a variety of initiatives.

The BIA (Business Improvement Area) is committed to raising funds in support of local charities, while also providing more than 50% of the funds necessary to stage the Taste of Lawrence Festival every year.

Salsa on St. Clair

July 9 & 10, 2011 – Now with Zumba!

“The 2011 Salsa on St. Clair, Canada’s largest Latino-themed festival, will take place Saturday July 9 from noon to 11pm and Sunday July 10 from noon to 9pm.

Now in its seventh year, Salsa on St. Clair has attracted over 1.5 million salsa lovers to the streets of Toronto since its launch in 2005.

Join in on this FREE family street party as midtown Toronto’s Hillcrest Village, between Winona Drive and Christie Street will be transformed into a showcase of pulsating music, passionate dancing, fiery foods, a Latin market, a children’s area and much more.

And don’t miss the FREE open-air Zumba class that will kick off the event at the Main stage each day.

Zumba is a Latin Dance and Rhythms fitness workout that that helps participants to be in shape while having fun.”

Several Toronto Salsa dance companies will be stationed at different “hotspots” throughout the festival, where they will be giving dance lessons and demonstrations all day starting at noon.

As well as some prominent Latin bands including Alberto AlbertoLos Homeless Latin Show, Salsotika, Ricardo Barboza y su Tumbao, TropicanadaSamba Squad, and Aché, several prominent Salsa dance companies will perform on the main stage between Greensides Avenue and Arlington Avenue.

St. Clair Avenue from Winona Drive to Christie Street will be closed in both directions from Saturday, July 9 at 8 a.m. to Sunday, July 10 at 11 p.m.

Weekend events with road closures in Toronto

Three special events this coming weekend will involve road closures. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy the events. Businesses in the affected areas will be open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to motorists.

Festivals and other special events are important to Toronto, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into the local economy, and they are enjoyed by residents and visitors each year.

In addition to road closures related to special events, a significant amount of road work is taking place this summer. People are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to their destinations. If you need to drive in event areas, allow extra time to get to and from your destination. A more complete list of events and road work is available at http://www.toronto.ca/torontostreets.

Honda Indy road closures:
• Strachan Avenue from Lake Shore Boulevard to Fleet Street will be closed starting at noon today – Wednesday, July 6. Later today, taking effect at 9 p.m., the section of Lake Shore Boulevard from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Drive will be closed. Both closures will be in effect until Sunday, July 10 at midnight. There will be no eastbound or westbound traffic on Lake Shore Boulevard between Strachan Avenue and British Columbia Drive during the closures.
