The Ontario Sports Awards are a provincial award program established in 1975 to honour and promote athletic achievement and participation in sport and fitness.
2011 Ontario Sport Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and corporate sponsors who support amateur sport in Ontario, Canada.
This year’s finalists include:

McGuinty Government Congratulates Ontario Sport Award Finalists
Ontario is proud to recognize 33 of the province’s top amateur athletes and coaches whose performances excelled on both national and international arenas, including at the 2011 Pan/Parapan American Games.
The 2011 Ontario Sport Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and corporate sponsors who support amateur sport in Ontario.
This year’s finalists include:
- Male Athlete of the Year — Eric Lamaze (Equestrian), Adam van Koeverden(Kayak), Patrick Chan (Figure Skating)

- Established in 1965, the Ontario Sport Awards marks its 46th year honouring outstanding achievements in Ontario amateur sport. It is the highest recognition for sport excellence in the province.
- Finalists are nominated by their Provincial/Multi Sport Organization and winners are chosen by the Sport Awards Selection Committee, a group of former athletes and sport administrators from Ontario.
- Previous recipients include Heather Moyse, Richard Ball, Priscilla Lopes-Schlieppe, Eric Lamaze, Patrick Chan, Donovan Bailey, Silken Laumann and Lennox Lewis.
- Fourteen 2011 Ontario Sport Awards finalists have benefited from the Quest for Gold Program.
- 47 Ontario athletes who reached the podium at the 2011 Pan and Parapan American Games received support through Quest for Gold.
- Ontarians will have the opportunity to cheer on some of these honoured coaches and athletes as members of Team Canada in London, England at the 2012 Olympic and Paraylmpic Games or when the GTA hosts the highly anticipated, Pan/Parapan American Games in 2015.
- The Pan/Parapan American Games will create thousands of construction jobs, improve sports infrastructure and attract over 250,000 athletes, coaches and tourists to Ontario.
