The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the Golden Boy brand Inshell Mixed Nuts described below because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

Regarding the packer, Golden Boy Foods Ltd. (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada), voluntarily recalling the affected Golden Boy brand Inshell Mixed Nuts, the details are as follows:

  • Sold in 1.36 kg (3 lb) mesh bags bearing UPC 0 4684 10948 0
  • This product has been distributed nationally
  • There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product
  • Recall Classification: Class II

HEALTH HAZARD ALERT

Certain GOLDEN BOY brand INSHELL MIXED NUTS may contain Salmonella bacteria

OTTAWA, December 11, 2012 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the Golden Boy brand Inshell Mixed Nuts described below because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product, Golden Boy brand Inshell Mixed Nuts are sold in 1.36 kg (3 lb) mesh bags bearing UPC 0 4684 10948 0.

This product has been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The packer, Golden Boy Foods Ltd, Burnaby, BC, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, le 11 décembre 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) avise la population de ne pas consommer de « noix mélangées dans l’écale » de marque Golden Boy décrites ci dessous parce que ce produit pourrait être contaminé par la bactérie Salmonella.

Le produit visé, « noix mélangées dans l’écale » de marque Golden Boy, est vendu en filets de 1,36 kg (3 livres) portant le CUP 0 64684 10948 0.

Ce produit a été distribué à l’échelle nationale.

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ce produit n’a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.

L’entreprise de conditionnement, Golden Boy Foods Ltd, basée à Burnaby (Colombie-Britannique) retire volontairement du marché le produit visé. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
