The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the peanut butter-containing products listed below in the CFIA Public Advisory of October 10, 2012 because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
The details regarding the recall of the affected peanut butter-containing products are as follows:
- These products may have been distributed nationally through Internet sales from the United States
- There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products
- These products have been recalled by the legal agent’s in the United States

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

- Correspond à une situation où il existe une probabilité raisonnable que l’utilisation d’un produit non conforme ou une exposition à celui-ci entraînera des effets nuisibles graves sur la santé, voire même la mort
- L’ACIA publie des mises en garde et envoie des avis par courriel sur les rappels d’aliments à risque élevé (principalement ceux de la classe I) lorsque le produit est en vente ou pourrait se trouver chez les consommateurs.

OTTAWA, le 10 octobre 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) avise la population de ne pas consommer les produits contenant du beurre d’arachides qui sont décrits ci après. En effet, ces derniers pourraient être contaminés par la bactérie Salmonella.

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n’a été signalé.
Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d=aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.
