Regarding Costco Wholesale store’s recall of certain Kirkland brand beef steaks, the details are as follows:
- Recall Classification: Class 1
- is a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death
- Involves all beef steaks including the Strip Loin Grilling Steak prepared and sold in variable weight packages from Costco Wholesale store #156, located at 13650, 50th street, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
- These steaks were sold during the period September 4 through 7, 2012 and bear one of the following Packed On dates:
- 12 / SE / 04
- 12 / SE / 05
- 12 / SE / 06
- 12 / SE / 07
- These steaks were sold during the period September 4 through 7, 2012 and bear one of the following Packed On dates:
- Consumers are advised to contact the above Costco Wholesale store to determine if the beef products in your home freezer are affected
- There have been several confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of the Kirkland brand Strip Loin Grilling Steaks purchased from the Costco Wholesale store #156 in Edmonton, Alberta
- The CFIA is working with the manufacturer to have the affected products removed from the marketplace

All beef steaks including the Strip Loin Grilling Steak prepared and sold in variable weight packages from Costco Wholesale store #156, located at 13650, 50th street, Edmonton, Alberta are affected by this alert. These steaks were sold during the period September 4 through 7, 2012 and bear one of the following Packed On dates:
- 12 / SE / 04
- 12 / SE / 05
- 12 / SE / 06

Others may live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
The CFIA is working with the manufacturer to have the affected products removed from the marketplace.

OTTAWA, le 26 septembre 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) avise la population de ne pas consommer les steaks de boeuf de marque Kirkland décrits ci dessous, car ces produits pourraient être contaminés par la bactérie E. coli O157:H7.
Tous les steaks de boeuf, y compris le bifteck de contre-filet à griller, préparés et vendus dans des emballages de divers poids par Costco Wholesale, au magasin #156 situé au 13650, 50th street, à Edmonton (Alberta), sont visés par ce rappel. Ces steaks ont été vendus pendant la période du 4 au 7 septembre 2012 et portent une des dates d’emballage suivantes :

Les consommateurs sont priés de contacter le magasin Costco Wholesale susmentionné pour déterminer s’ils ont acheté les produits de boeuf visés.
Plusieurs cas de maladie associés à la consommation de biftecks de contre-filet à griller de marque Kirkland achetés au magasin #156 de Costco Wholesale à Edmonton (Alberta) ont été confirmés.
Les aliments contaminés par E. coli O157:H7 ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut occasionner des maladies graves, parfois mortelles, qui se manifestent notamment par des douleurs abdominales intenses et de la diarrhée sanguine. Certaines personnes peuvent avoir des convulsions ou des accidents cérébrovasculaires, d’autres peuvent avoir besoin de transfusions sanguines et de dialyse. Dans certains cas, les dommages causés aux reins sont permanents. Dans les cas graves, la contamination par E. coli O157:H7 peut causer la mort.
L’ACIA travaille avec le fabricant pour retirer du marché les produits visés.
