  • Today marks a significant occasion of observance across the Métis Nation, with Louis Riel Day ceremonies held throughout Canada
  • The City of Toronto honours the contributions of Métis leader Louis Riel and the Métis people to the development of Canada
  • Councillor Michael Layton (Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina), Chair of the Aboriginal Affairs Committee, will bring greetings and read the proclamation on behalf of Mayor Rob Ford and City Council
  • Other speakers include:
    • Senator Alis Kennedy, Métis Nation of Ontario
    • France Picotte, Chair of the Métis Nation of Ontario
    • Youth representative Christine Skura
  • There will also be a performance by Métis youth singer Rebecca Cuddy
  • The event will finish with the annual flag-raising ceremony on the podium roof at City Hall
