This documentary looks at one of the world’s most beautiful and mysterious creatures: the monarch butterfly. This creature represents a powerful mix of scientific marvel, awesome beauty and epic struggle for survival. What scientists are at a loss to fully explain is how the monarch makes a seemingly impossible 3000 kilometre journey from Canada—over mountains, through storms and across large bodies of water—to its small and remote wintering grounds in the mountains of Mexico. Based on the book by Sue Halpern.

“By declaring that nature must be conquered in the name of progress, Chairman Mao ushered in an era of environmental degradation for China. Seen through the eyes of activists, farmers and journalists, Waking the Green Tiger follows an extraordinary campaign to stop a huge dam project on the Upper Yangtze River in southwestern China. Waking the Green Tiger is an inspired look at the new environmental movement in China.”
