Canada’s 2012 Ontario Summer Games (OSG):

• This is Ontario’s largest multi-sport event

• Inspires youth throughout Ontario to participate in sport and lead healthier, active lifestyles

• Involves 2,500 of Ontario’s best, young athletes who will compete in 28 sports at multiple venues across Toronto and the surrounding areas of:
  • Brampton
  • Caledon
  • Oshawa
  • St. Catharines
  • Welland

• Involves the City of Toronto partnering with the:
  • Ontario Ministry of Tourism
  • Culture and Sport
  • Sport Alliance Ontario
  • Toronto Sports Council
  • Tourism Toronto

2012 Ontario Summer Games Opening Ceremony:

•  Officially begins Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m
  
  • a spectacular 90-minute opening ceremony at Toronto’s Varsity Stadium, University of Toronto, 299 Bloor St. W.
  • Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

• Wherein the City of Toronto, host of the Ontario Summer Games, will be joined by the:
  • Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario
  • Honourable Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism Culture and Sport
  • Rahul Bhardwaj, Chair of the 2012 Ontario Summer Games Organizing Committee
  • Holly Abraham, Chair of Sport Alliance Ontario

•  Includes entertainment such as:
  • acrobatic trampoliners Circus Orange
  • five-time international cheerleading champions Power Cheer
  • a musical finale from Toronto band Neverest
