Updated Health Hazard Alert: Certain COUNTRY MORNING Brand Beef Burgers and NO NAME Club Pack Beef Steakettes Recalled

This is an update to my previous blog Health Hazard Alert: Certain COUNTRY MORNING Brand Beef Burgers and NO NAME Club Pack Beef Steakettes Recalled.

Please note that the following locations (as highlighted in boldface) are added to the previous distribution list:

  • The Country Morning Beef Burgers product has been distributed to COOP and TGP grocery stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North West Territories, Yukon Territories and Nunavut
  • The no name Club Pack Beef Steakettes product has been distributed by Loblaws to the following stores:
    • Ontario:Cash&Carry/RCWC Ontario Corporate, Extra Foods, Freshmart, Loblaws Great Food, no frills, RCWC West Corporate, Real Canadian Superstore, Value-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs and Zehrs Great Food.
    • British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba:Extra Foods, Extra Foods no frills, Real Canadian Superstore West Corporate, Shop Easy/SuperValu, Superstore, Your Independent Grocer

Certain COUNTRY MORNING brand beef burgers and NO NAME club pack beef steakettes may contain E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria

OTTAWA, February 22, 2012 – The public warning issued on February 18, 2012 has been expanded to clarify distribution.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and New Food Classics are warning the public not to consume certain Country Morning Beef Burgers, and no name Club Pack Beef Steakettes described below, because the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The following products are affected by this alert:

The Country Morning Beef Burgers product has been distributed to COOP and TGP grocery stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North West Territories, Yukon Territories and Nunavut.

The no name Club Pack Beef Steakettes product has been distributed by Loblaws to the following stores:

  • ONTARIO: Cash&Carry/RCWC Ontario Corporate, Extra Foods, Freshmart, Loblaws Great Food, no frills, RCWC West Corporate, Real Canadian Superstore, Value-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs and Zehrs Great Food.
  • British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba: Extra Foods, Extra Foods no frills, Real Canadian Superstore West Corporate, Shop Easy/SuperValu, Superstore, Your Independent Grocer.
  • North West Territories, Yukon Territories and Nunavut.

There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of this product.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria my cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea. Some people may have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Others may live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The manufacturer, New Food Classics, 1122 International Blvd, Suite 601, Burlington, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.  The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, le 22 février 2012 – On a élargi la portée de la mise en garde du 18 février 2012 afin de fournir d’autres renseignements sur la distribution des produits.

L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et New Food Classics avisent la population de ne pas consommer certains burgers de boeuf de marque Country Morning et certaines steakettes en emballage format club sans nom décrits ci après parce qu’ils peuvent être contaminés par la bactérie E. coli 0157:H7.

Les produits suivants sont touchés par la présente mise en garde :

Les burgers de boeuf de marque Country Morning ont été distribués aux épiceries Co-op et TGP en Colombie Britannique, en Alberta, en Saskatchewan, au Manitoba, en Ontario, dans les Territoires du Nord Ouest, au Yukon et au Nunavut.

Les steakettes de boeuf en emballage format club sans nom ont été distribuées par Loblaws aux magasins suivants :

  • Ontario: Cash&Carry/RCWC Ontario Corporate, Extra Foods, Freshmart, Loblaws Great Food, no frills, RCWC West Corporate, Real Canadian Superstore, Value-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs et Zehrs Great Food.
  • Colombie Britannique, Alberta, Saskatchewan et Manitoba: Extra Foods, Extra Foods no frills, Real Canadian Superstore West Corporate, Shop Easy/SuperValu, Superstore, Your Independent Grocer.
  • Territoires du Nord Ouest, Yukon et Nunavut.

Un cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par la bactérie E.coli O157:H7 ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut occasionner des maladies graves et potentiellement mortelles. Les symptômes peuvent comprendre de fortes douleurs abdominales et la diarrhée sanglante. Certaines personnes peuvent souffrir de convulsions ou d’accidents vasculaires cérébraux, d’autres peuvent avoir besoin d’une transfusion de sang et d’une dialyse. Dans certains cas, les dommages causés aux reins peuvent être permanents. Dans les cas graves, la maladie peut causer la mort.

Le fabricant, New Food Classics, 1122 International Blvd, Suite 601, Burlington (Ontario), retire volontairement du marché les produits touchés. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
