Updated Health Hazard Alert: Certain GRILLHOUSE Brand Beef Burgers Recalled

This is an update to my previous blogs:

New Food Classics (1122 International Blvd, Suite 601, Burlington, Ontario, Canada), the same maufacturer as in the above health hazard alerts, is now warning the public not to consume certain Grillhouse beef burger products, described in the Public Advisory table below, because the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

The details regarding New Food Classics’s voluntary recall of certain Grillhouse beef burger products from the marketplace are as follows:

  • Grillhouse brand products, bearing the establishment 761, are affected (please see the Public Advisory table below).
  • These products have been distributed nationally through restaurants and institutional establishments.
  • There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products.

BEEF BURGER PRODUCTS may contain E. coli O157:H7 bacteria

OTTAWA, February 24, 2012 – The public warning issued on February 22, 2012 has been expanded to include additional products and distribution information.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and New Food Classics are warning the public not to consume certain Grillhouse beef burger products, described below, because the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The following Grillhouse brand products, bearing the establishment 761, are affected by this alert:

These products have been distributed nationally through restaurants and institutional establishments.

There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria my cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea. Some people may have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Others may live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The manufacturer, New Food Classics, 1122 International Blvd, Suite 601, Burlington, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.  The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, le 24 février 2012 – La portée de la mise en garde du 22 février 2012 a été élargie afin d’inclure d’autres produits ainsi que d’autres renseignements sur la distribution.

L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et New Food Classics avisent la population de ne pas consommer les burgers de boeuf de marque Grillhouse décrits ci dessous parce que ces produits peuvent être contaminés par la bactérie E. coli O157:H7.

Les produits suivants de marque Grillhouse, portant le numéro d’établissement 761, sont visés par cette mise en garde :

Ces produits ont été distribués à l’échelle nationale à des restaurants et à des établissements institutionnels.

Un cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par la bactérie E.coli O157:H7 ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut occasionner des maladies graves et potentiellement mortelles. Les symptômes peuvent comprendre de fortes douleurs abdominales et la diarrhée sanglante. Certaines personnes peuvent souffrir de convulsions ou d’accidents vasculaires cérébraux, d’autres peuvent avoir besoin d’une transfusion de sang et d’une dialyse. Dans certains cas, les dommages causés aux reins peuvent être permanents. Dans les cas graves, la maladie peut causer la mort.

Le fabricant, New Food Classics, 1122 International Blvd, Suite 601, Burlington (Ontario), retire volontairement du marché les produits touchés. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
