Health Hazard Alert: DION Brand ORGANIC CURRY POWDER Recalled

G. Dion Foods (Saint-Jerome, Quebec, Canada) is warning the public not to consume the Dion brand Organic Curry Powder described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

The details regarding G. Dion Foods’ voluntary recall of Dion brand Organic Curry Powder from the marketplace are as follows:

  • The affected product, Dion brand Organic Curry powder is sold in 36 g packages bearing lot code 02B01G and UPC 6 20383 02007 7.
  • This product has been distributed in Quebec and Ontario, Canada.
  • There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

HEALTH HAZARD ALERT

DION brand CURRY POWDER may contain Salmonella bacteria

OTTAWA, March 8, 2012 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and G. Dion Foods are warning the public not to consume the Dion brand curry powder described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product, Dion brand Organic Curry powder is sold in 36 g packages bearing lot code 02B01G and UPC 6 20383 02007 7.

This product has been distributed in Quebec and Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The Manufacturer, G. Dion Foods, Saint-Jerome, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, le 8 mars 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et les Aliments G. Dion avisent la population de ne pas consommer de cari en poudre de marque Dion décrit ci-dessous. En effet, le produit visé pourrait être contaminé par la bactérie Salmonella.

Le produit visé, le cari en poudre biologique de marque Dion est vendu en emballages de 36 g portant le code de lot 02B01G et le CUP 6 20383 02007 7.

Le produit a été distribué au Québec et en Ontario.

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ce produit n’a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.

Le fabricant, les Aliments G. Dion, de Saint-Jérôme (Québec), retire volontairement du marché le produit visé. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
