This is an update to my previous blog Health Hazard Alert: Certain Pre-Packaged & Bulk In-Shell Filberts (Hazelnuts) Recalled.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaw Companies Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the following additional products which are in-shell Mixed Nuts containing filberts (hazelnuts) described below, because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria:

OTTAWA, December 2, 2012 – The public warning issued earlier on December 2, 2012 has been updated to include additional products containing filberts (hazelnuts).
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaw Companies Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the in-shell Mixed Nuts described below because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The following mixed nuts, products of USA, are affected by this alert:

These products were distributed nationally in Loblaw banners – Real Canadian Super Store, Fortinos, Freshmart, Loblaws, No Frills, Valu-Mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs, Dominion, Red & White, Save Easy, Cash and Carry, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Maxi & Cie, Maxi, Presto, Club Entrepôt, Provigo, Extra Foods, Shop Easy, Super Valu, Westfair, Affiliated Independents, Quick Mart.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The retailer, Loblaw Companies Ltd., Brampton, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, 2 décembre 2012 – La mise en garde diffusée plus tôt le 2 décembre 2012 a été modifiée pour inclure d’autres produits contenant des noisettes.
L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et les Compagnies Loblaw Limitée avisent la population de ne pas consommer les noix mélangées décrites ci dessous parce que ces produits pourraient être contaminés par la bactérie Salmonella.
Les noix mélangées suivantes, produites aux États-Unis, sont visées par le rappel :

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n’a été signalé.
Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.
Le détaillant, Les Compagnies Loblaw Limitée, Brampton (Ontario), retire volontairement du marché le produit visé. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
